What is Reiki? The Japanese word, Reiki means ‘Universal
Energy’. It is a natural healing energy activated by intention. It
works on every level, not just the physical, and promotes the body’s
regenerative self healing ability. The practice of Reiki is an original
method of healing, believed to have started in
Tibet
, and developed by Mikao Usui in
Japan
early in the 20th Century.
Reiki is a non-invasive therapy whose purpose is
to treat holistically and to restore equilibrium. It is a gentle yet
powerful complementary therapy that may be used with confidence
alongside orthodox health care. Reiki is not, however, an alternative to
conventional medicine.
What is it for? Any illness or long term condition is suitable to
be treated with Reiki. It is suitable for the smallest baby or the frail
or elderly. Illness can be a time of great stress, and benefits reported
by clients indicate deep relaxation, pain control, accelerated wound
healing, and a sense of well being on an emotional and spiritual level.

What happens? Treatment is non diagnostic,
non interventionist, and non manipulative. It is usually carried out
with the recipient lying down. There is no need to remove any clothing.
The practitioner places their hands gently on or over the body. The
recipient automatically draws in energy as it is needed, using it
wherever is most appropriate
at the time.

How will it feel? Reiki may be experienced as a
flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or
nothing at all. It is deeply relaxing and has a profoundly calming
effect that is particularly effective in relieving stress. Any treatment
may be enhanced by rest for a while afterwards with plenty of water to
drink to aid the detoxification process. |
How often is treatment
required? Even one single Reiki session
may make a difference; however, a course of regular treatments may be
more effective, whether weekly, fortnightly or less often, depending on
individual needs. A treatment plan will be discussed with the client,
and can be changed in line with progress. |
